Grades 1.4401, commonly known as stainless steel grades 316 , are the second most commonly used stainless steel grade after 304/304L. 316 is basically an improved version of 304, with addition of molybdenum and slightly higher content of nickel.However, both 304 and 316 grades have significant commercial usage due to their good corrosion resistant properties, crevice corrosion and cost effectiveness. Stainless steel 316 contains an addition of molybdenum that gives it improved corrosion resistance, particularly in chloride environments.
Product Features
The 316 Stainless Steel Coil material is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel that contains around 2-3% molybdenum in its chemical composition. Due to its presence, the material comes with an enhanced corrosion resistance, along with pitting resistance in the chloride environments. The ASTM A240 SS 316 Coil material also shows increased strength at a high temperature. This one is more effective in the acidic environments, which means it can resist corrosion significantly in sulfuric, acetic, and various other types of acid sulfates and alkaline chlorides.
