Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of carbon steel plates are:
1. After heat treatment, the hardness and wear resistance can be improved.
2. When annealing, the hardness is appropriate and the cutting ability is good.
3. Its raw materials are very common, so it is easy to find, so the production cost is not high.
The disadvantages of carbon steel plates are:
1. His thermal hardness is not good. When used as a cutting tool material, if the temperature exceeds 200 degrees, the hardness and wear resistance will deteriorate.
2. His hardenability is poor. When water quenched, the diameter is usually maintained at 15 to 18 millimeters, while when not quenched, the diameter and thickness are usually 6 millimeters, making it prone to deformation or cracking.

ASTM A53 (ASME SA53) carbon steel plate is a specification that covers seamless and welded black and hot-dipped galvanized steel plate in NPS 1/8" to NPS 26. A 53 is intended for pressure and mechanical applications and is also acceptable for ordinary uses in steam, water, gas, and air lines.

ASTM A53 GRB steel plate (also referred to as ASME SA53 plate) is intended for mechanical and pressure applications and is also acceptable for ordinary uses in steam, water, gas and air lines. It is suitable for welding and for forming operations involving coiling, bending, and flanging, subject to certain qualifications.

ASTM A53 plate covers Seamless and Welded, Black and Hot-Dipped Galvanized nominal (average) wall plate for coiling, bending, flanging and other special purposes and is suitable for welding. Continuous-Welded plate is not intended for flanging. Purpose for which plate is intended should be stated on order.

The steel for both seamless and welded plate shall be made by one or more of the following processes: open-hearth, electric furnace, or basic-oxygen. The weld seam of electric-resistance welded plate in ASTM A53 GRB steel plate shall be heat treated after welding.

A53 plate comes in three types (F, E, S) and two grades (A, B). 

A53 Type F is manufactured with a furnace butt weld or may have a continuous weld (Grade A only)

A53 Type E has an electric resistance weld (Grades A and B)

A53 Type S is a seamless plate and found in Grades A and B)

A53 Grade B Seamless is our most polar product under this specification and A53 plate is commonly dual certified to A106 B Seamless plate.
